I’ve had the new Gen 5 Glock 19 for a week now and got to spend the weekend running defensive drills from concealment with it. After trying out some Ameriglo fiber-optic i-dot sights, I opted to install my go-to EDC sights: Truglo TFX Pros. Much better.
Low-Pro Handstop for my SBR
Sometimes you find perfection as an addition to your EDC kit. This Low-Pro handstop is the shit. The perfect, smooth, just-right component for my rail.
If you carry every day…
Then inspect your rig every day.
Screws and mechanics move over time. You don’t want to fall apart …ever, but especially at an inopportune moment.
KAK 308 Bolt Carrier Group
The single ejector on the bolt of my M5 .308 has failed so I’m going to give the dual-ejector setup a try. A .308 is a punishing caliber for the AR platform and components take a beating. I’m hoping this dual ejector will prove to be effective and more durable than the previous setup.
My New Gen 5 Glock 19
Picked up my Gen 5 Glock 19 today. No frame customization done yet (tomorrow), but I note that the inner workings are quite different from the Gen 4 pistols. The trigger assembly is similar to the G43, in that an L-shaped bar hooks onto the cruciform. Also, instead of a trigger spring that is stretched, the Gen 5 trigger spring is compressed. Hrm…
Much study ensues.
Update: After contouring and stippling
On the Back From Concealment at 22 Yards
Last week I worked from the ground on my stomach. This week it’s from my back. It’s been a long time since I worked this drill and I don’t have proper, automatic technique yet.
You’ll notice that when I’m changing sides, the muzzle of my pistol is safely clearing my legs, but for a second the muzzle is pointed up too much (and over the berm at this range). Not good range technique. But this is the primary reason that I make these videos: so that I can better spot the flaws in my safety and manipulations.
Moar training!
Pistol Drill From the Ground
Working on a 12″ plate at 20 yards here.
Just working to place good hits from the ground and to keep my gun in the fight when it runs empty. The mechanics are somewhat modified from the same things standing.
This video shows about the 48th or 50th rep I did on this drill. It was 97F so I was getting pretty fatigued by this point. Fun times!
New ALG Rail for My SBR
I’m a big fan of ALG rails for ARs. They’re clean, they’re solid, they’re light, they’re comfortable, and they have only what you want on a rail. So I got rid of the keymod rail on my .300BLK SBR truck gun and put a 10″ ALG M-LOK rail on it. After paint, I’m very happy now.
Soggy Training
So it rained again this week. I was running this rather physical drill a couple dozen times and finally decided to setup the camera under a cover and get one run on video.
As you can see, the fatigue and wet conditions were getting the better of me here. Had trouble staying accurate and dropped a couple of shots at 25 yards and even at 12 yards on the 6″ steel target. So bad. But that’s why they call it training. Moar training!
Go Gauge Follower Install
Today I replaced the follower in my Mossberg 500A 12 Gauge shotgun with a Go Gauge LED follower. It is a white follower that has an impact-sensitive LED inside that lights up when you fire. When your magazine runs dry, the light is visible in your chamber, making it clear that it’s time to reload.
The light looks strong, but it does not project, so it does not light up everything around you, even in the dark. But now even a quick glance at the chamber cavity will make it clear if you’re loaded or empty. Neat idea!
